Set within the serene Texas landscape, the Kuhlman Road Residence reimagines rural modernism through timeless materiality and refined spatial flow. Designed by EYRC Architects, the residence offers a seamless integration of architecture and nature, where concrete and wood anchor the home while expansive glazing opens it to the sky and trees.
The structure balances modesty and presence. A linear floor plan stretches across the site, framing views of the surrounding terrain while protecting its inhabitants' privacy. The exterior cladding of vertical cedar siding pairs naturally with board-formed concrete, giving the home a textural and earthy appearance that responds to the local climate.
Interior spaces reflect a minimalist, functional approach, emphasizing clean lines, neutral tones, and a restrained material palette. Daylight filters through large windows and sliding glass doors, animating the interiors and visually extending them into the landscape. The connection between indoors and outdoors is constant and deliberate, encouraging a peaceful, reflective lifestyle.
Key living areas—kitchen, dining, and living—are fluidly connected and oriented toward the landscape, creating a sense of openness without sacrificing intimacy. Private spaces, including bedrooms and bathrooms, are positioned for tranquility, each enjoying access to filtered light and framed nature views.
Sustainability is embedded throughout the design. Passive solar strategies, natural ventilation, and durable, locally sourced materials support both environmental responsibility and long-term performance. The home ages gracefully, with its cedar siding weathering into warm silvers and the concrete holding strong against Texas heat.
The Kuhlman Road Residence is more than a house—it’s a contemporary sanctuary. It stands as a model of restrained elegance and thoughtful living, perfectly aligned with EYRC’s ethos of human-centered design and responsive architecture.
